During my lectures, I use different techniques to help viewers learn the information. The questions at the beginning are designed to make you think about a topic (i.e., the topic covered by the question) during the lecture, which causes you to concentrate more on the lecture. At the end of the lecture, in addition to answering the questions, I ask you for main points. This is using a technique called reflection. In reflection a student goes back over material they have just read or viewed (e.g., stopping after reading each page of a book and thinking about what you just read). This aids in retention. My main teaching reference book is “Make it stick: The science of successful learning” (author: Peter Brown). The author describes a medical student who went from the bottom of their class to the top of the class using reflection in their studies.
